When it comes to establishing an online business, social media presence is a crucial element that can make or break your sales.

Not only do you need to know how to set yourself up on various social media platforms, but you also need to direct your audience to the right places. This can be more than a little frustrating, especially if you’re new to social media.

Have no fear, though, as there are plenty of ways to manage your social media links - and any other important links - under one roof!

Linktree is a great way to organize your links within one platform and without restrictions. But just how easy is it, and how do you get started? Let’s dive in and find out.

What is Linktree?

linktree

As mentioned, Linktree is a useful tool that allows users to create a page where they can share links for all sorts of social media platforms. Not only that, but users can also share links to other platforms, such as music platforms, creative and content based platforms, payment platforms and more.

One of the most irritating things about promoting on social media is that you can’t share links for other platforms easily. This is understandable, as of course, each social media platform is going to want you to stay with them for as long as possible. Why would they make it easy for your audience to go somewhere else?

That’s what makes Linktree so useful. It's a neutral party, so you can share as many links to other places as you so choose. Some examples of links you can share on a Linktree include the following:

This is just a small glimpse of the kinds of links that can be added to a Linktree. It’s a flexible platform where you can share anything and everything.

It’s important to know what kind of link you are trying to add to your Linktree before you do so. Let’s take a quick look at the two different Linktree links that you can add before we get into how to set up your own Linktree.

static links

Static links are simply links that will take the user clicking on it away from your Linktree and to another page. The link will usually open up in another tab on a browser when using a PC, such as in the image above.

linktre embedded links

On Linktree, embedded links are also known as Link Apps. These links differ from static links, as they allow visitors to your Linktree to complete a certain action or view content without leaving the Linktree page.

Visitors can perform actions such as streaming or watching videos, or even leave tips with embedded links. The image above is an example of a tip being given via an embedded link.

There are tons of possibilities with these links. They make life easier for your visitors by reducing their clicks while also keeping that all-important engagement boosted. What’s not to like?

How to Create Your Own Linktree

Now that we have a thorough understanding of Linktree and the kinds of links the website utilizes, let’s take a look at how to make a Linktree of your own.

1. Start the sign up process

First off, head over to Linktree’s website and click on “sign up for free” at the top of the page. It will take you to a page where you can put in your email address. Once you have typed in the email address that you want to associate with your Linktree, click on continue.

You can also sign in via your Apple or Google account if you so choose. Just remember that the email associated with your Google or Apple account is the one that will be connected to your Linktree if this is the route you opt for.

Create your account by inputting a chosen password and clicking on the “create account” button.

2. Pick a suitable username

The next step you’ll need to take is to create a username that will be used on your Linktree. Make sure you pick something relevant, especially if you plan on using your Linktree to promote an online business.

3. Choose your payment plan

linktree plans

The default plan you’ll be put on when you set up your Linktree is the free one, which offers a fair amount of features. As per the image above, the free plan allows users to create QR codes, sell with the Shop tab, connect all social profiles, and include unlimited links. However, this might not be enough for your needs. If this is the case, you might want to consider one of the other three plans.

The Linktree Starter plan is advertised as for “growing influencers” and offers everything in the free plan plus some bonus features. These include more customization options, analytics for social icons and links, commerce value tracking, and link scheduling. The Starter plan costs $5 a month.

The Pro plan is suggested as being suitable for “content creators and businesses.” It includes all of the above plus additional marketing tools, such as integrations with Mailchimp and Google Analytics. It also includes more significant insights and analytics, even more customization options, and the opportunity to build a visitor list with phone numbers and email addresses. This plan is free for 30 days, but will then cost $9 a month.

Last but not least is the Premium plan, said to be for “brands and businesses.” You get everything from the other plans as well as some more in depth features. These include the chance to export analytics data, tailored onboarding help, unlimited historical insights and priority customer support. The Premium plan is the most costly option at $24 a month.

It’s best to decide on your Linktree plan as soon as possible so you can start utilizing your page accordingly.

4. Create a custom page

This is a step that could be saved until later on, depending on your personal preferences. However, customizing your Linktree once you have chosen your payment plan is a crucial step that you’ll need to sort out at some point anyway. Might as well get started with it as soon as possible!

As mentioned, there are more options for customization when you opt for one of the paid plans. The Pro plan includes unlimited customization, so this is a choice you might want to consider if the style and look of your Linktree is of the utmost importance.

The design elements that can be customized include the following:

  • Themes
  • Backgrounds
  • Buttons
  • Fonts
  • Colors

There are even themes with designs based on collaborations with well known public figures, such as singer Billie Eilish and artist Daniel Triendl!

All that’s left to do once you have picked your plan and customized your page is to start adding your links.

To do so, navigate to the “Links” section of the Linktree homepage, as shown above. You’ll then need to add the URL of your link into the URL section. Next, give your link a title and type it into the title box, which is above the URL box. The title is what will appear on the button on your Linktree homepage. Make sure that it stands out and accurately represents where the visitor will be directed to. You can add an unlimited number of links on your Linktree, even with the free version.

Alternatives to Linktree

Linktree is a great option of an all in one platform to share your links, but it does have its setbacks. If you opt to include a lot of links on your Linktree, you run the risk of confusing your audience. Confusion can very quickly lead to disengagement and potentially scare away visitors before they even click on anything.

There are other alternatives when it comes to promoting your links online in one place, so let’s take a look at some noteworthy options.

taplink

Although Taplink is primarily aimed at those who use Instagram, it can be used in a range of ways.

This micro-site platform focuses on the creation of bio link pages, and offers various features to allow you to do so. One example of this is a feature that allows users to create a sign up form that can be shared with a QR code.

Despite not needing much technical know-how to navigate Taplink, it encourages and allows users to create bio link pages that have more to them. This can include videos or images as well as links. It’s a little more complex than Linktree, but that’s understandable, seeing as it offers more advanced features.

Campsite.bio

campsite.bio

Campsite.bio is another option when it comes to link management. This site allows you to create a personalized, unique landing page for all your social media links.

Much like Linktree, it offers options when it comes to customization so that you can inject some of your brand’s personality into your landing page. With a simple and clean aesthetic, Campsite.bio is a great choice for influencers and regular users alike.

whop

When it comes to a Linktree alternative that offers everything that Linktree’s platform does and more under one roof, Whop is the number one choice. While Whop is not focused purely on link sharing alone, as is the case with Linktree, the platform offers various features that are invaluable to any business.

Whop has a distinctive focus on those who are looking to monetize their creations, such as selling online courses, ebooks, paid community access, digital downloads, and more. From selling your products to managing memberships and building your community, Whop gives creators the chance to take control of every aspect of their business in one central place.

When you put your whop link in your bio, you funnel your audience to your whop hub, where you can sell all kinds of digital products and services. Therefore, Whop is perfect for content creators, online coaches, influencers, ecommerce entrepreneurs, sports cappers - anyone who has an online business. Rather than using Linktree to share multiple out-links, use Whop to share one link to a central hub where you can host and sell multiple products.

One of the defining features of Whop’s structure is the pricing model. Rather than charging certain prices for tier levels, like Linktree and the alternatives we mentioned, Whop only charges a 3% share for each sale from your link in bio. No sneaky charges, no subscriptions, no hassle!

Looking to promote yourself online and make some money while you’re at it? Opt for Whop.
