If you use Whop, you will already know that whops are a collection of apps. As such, apps are the very things that define a whop and create the community experience. Based on the apps that you add to your whop, it can become any platform you can imagine, from an online course platform to a sports betting community. Adding apps to a whop is easy and free - it just takes a few clicks to do so.

In this guide, we’re going to remember what a whop is and learn what Whop apps are, how you can add them to your own whop, and how you can remove them if needed.

What is a whop?

whop

A whop can simply be explained as an “internet hub” - but it’s actually much more than that.

Think of your favorite digital platform: Instagram, Discord, Coursera, Reddit, or any other. They all have unique features that they offer, but since each platform is tailored for a specific purpose, they might not be the best fit for your dream platform.

Let’s think of features of the digital platforms as modules - Discord has the text channel module, one of the strongest features of the platform, and Coursera has comprehensive online courses. It would be so cool to merge the two platforms, wouldn’t it? Well, you can do that in a whop. A whop is a modular platform where you pick which features it has. Do you want to create a course platform that also has chat rooms, Twitter feeds, forums, video calls, and even embedded websites? That’s a whop.

We’ve been mentioning features as “modules” - those are called “apps” on Whop. Each app serves a different purpose, and they will transform your whop into your dream platform. After adding the apps your platform needs, you can create monetized membership options so that people can obtain those products and get access to your whop - you can even make them free if you want to. Your whop will be your very own internet hub with features that you want, and you can sell access to.

Let’s learn a bit more about apps on Whop.

What are Whop Apps?

As we mentioned, a whop is a modular hub, and you should think of Whop apps as its “modules” or "features". There are many apps on Whop that allow you to do all kinds of things. Let’s take the Chat app, for example - as its name suggests, it’s basically a chat room where the members of your whop can communicate with each other. Then there's the Links app to create your link board, the Help Desk app for ticket support, and the Job Board app to help you recruit for roles. Or the Files app, which lets you create a file directory from which your members can access and download files. Then there's the Calendar app for taking bookings. Of course, we’re just scratching at the surface of Whop apps with these examples - there are many more apps with much cooler stuff.

All apps can be added to your whop for free, and you can even add multiple instances of the same app. This allows you to create multiple chat rooms, courses, forums, link directories, embedded websites, or even sell access to your software with automatic license key generation.

Then, you can set the access of apps to either Free or Paid/Private. So if you have a free community chat and a paid VIP chat, add a product to the VIP chat to ensure that only members can join it. that are set to Free will be open for everyone to use on the internet.

The top five most popular apps on Whop are:

  1. Courses - this app allows you to create comprehensive courses within your whop. It supports classic video lessons, text pages, files, graded and non-graded quizzes, and more.
  2. Chat - as its name suggests, this app allows you to create a chat room within your whop. You can determine who can chat and who can react, as well as the username colors, banned words, and more.
  3. Files - this app allows you to create a file directory within your whop, allowing you to easily share files with the members of your whop.
  4. Content - this app can simply be explained as an online PDF file. You can use powerful formatting to create text pages for your members to see.
  5. Affiliate Links - this app allows you to create a directory of affiliate links to create a link directory - you can even location gate the links so that only users that are in the location that you select will be able to use the link.

Now that you know what apps are, let's take a look at how you can add apps to a whop.

Adding Apps to a whop

Adding apps to a whop is super easy, but first, you must have a whop. If you don’t already have one, take a look at our How to Create Your Own whop guide to get started.

If you got your whop ready to go, let’s move on. To add an app, you should first navigate to the Apps section using the Add apps button under the Admin Area of your whop.

The Add apps button on a whop

When you click on the Add apps button on your whop, you’ll be directed to the Apps section, where you can find all available apps on whop. Remember, they’re all free to add to your whop, and you can add multiple instances of the same app.

Clicking on the Add app button next to an app will immediately add it to your whop.

After adding an app, you’ll notice that it will be listed under the User Area of your whop. There, you can click on apps to navigate between them.

Once you click on an app you added, you’ll notice that it will have at least three sections. Most apps have the Set up, Preview as user, and Access sections. As their name suggests, they allow you to set the app up, see the app from the perspective of a regular user, and determine how people can access the app, respectively.

You might also notice that a three-dot menu will appear when you hover over the app. Clicking on it will display a context menu that will allow you to hide the app from your whop, rename it, copy its link, mark it as read (if it’s a communication-related app), change its icon, and delete it.

The two options that you might tend to use the most in this menu are Rename and Change Icon. We mentioned that you can add multiple instances of the single app - now, imagine you have a whop about terrarium enthusiasts. A single chat room might not be enough because while some of your members are talking about plant selection, others might want to talk about soil prepping. So, you can add two Chat apps to your whop, rename them Plant Chat and Soil Chat, and give them a related icon.

How to Remove an App from a whop

Removing an app from your whop is as easy as adding them - it takes just a few clicks. All you need to do is to hover over the app, click on the three-dot button, and click on the Delete button on the context menu. Once you click on the Delete button, you’ll see a pop-up asking you if you’re sure. Clicking on the Delete button of the popup will remove the app from your whop. Be cautious - this action is irreversible, and you’ll lose everything in the app.
